Coffee farm tours leave hourly from Calle Real for hands-on bean-to-cup walks, the trout-and-patacon lunch at any plaza restaurant defines the town's palate, and weekend Colombian tourists swell the streets considerably. Wi-Fi works in the cafés but not for anything critical, and the chill at 1900 meters surprises first-timers. As a slow base for hiking, writing, and learning real Colombian rhythm, Salento is hard to beat for the price.
